Greetings to everyone who've taken time to visit The40Strong.com, which is our BrainTrust and history of our organization. With us doing so much over the years, it's very easy to get lost on the focus--- Virginia Criminal Justice and Prison Reform. Please do not be alarmed though because our focus is firmly planted in the assignment.
The purpose of this tab Virginia Criminal Justice History is to educate and provide a bird's eye view of the history, complexities, victories, and losses, of Criminal Justice and prison reform in Virginia. We will tackle the sordid history of race and slavery in Virginia, as well as the continued pursuit of equality.
One thing for sure, you will be educated and well equipped to assist your loved one or yourself with navigating the Virginia Criminal Justice process and realities you'll face.
We will also be highlighting other organizations and fellow advocates who are doing the work. There are organizations like the ACLU of Virginia, Coalition for Justice, Virginia Justice Network, Nolef Turns, Breaking Barriers, Virginia Justice Alliance, Freedom Over Everything, R.I.H.D, The Humanization, Sistas in Prison Reform (S.I.P.), The Shaka Shakur Movement, Second Chance Quest, and so many others.
We will delve into how parole was abolished by then Governor Allen (1995) and the staunch repercussions of that decision. We will look at the broken parole system and ways we are trying to repair it, as well as the plight of Fishback prisoners who did not receive fair and impartial sentencing phases. We will educate you on the Juvenile life fiasco and take a clairvoyant look into the rehabilitation and Re-entry situation currently going on.
We will introduce you to stories like that of Shaka Shakur, Johnnie Wood, Jimmy Baggett, Agenta Winston and many others, who are languishing inside of Virginia prisons as we speak. WE WILL NOT hold back any truth or try to sugarcoat the mass incarceration reality that faces Virginia as well as many other cities and communities across the country. Our goal will be to expose these stories to you, and let you quantify this debilitating existence for countless men and women.
We will confront the pay wage for working in Virginia DOC, as well as the challenges of returning homes after serving 10-20-30 years inside. There are other complicate subjects like programs, vocational trades, visitation, and other parameters that shape the prison experience. The better the education, the better the advocacy potential for you and understanding of your loved one's experience.
The reality of prison is not pretty, and we will not present the information as such.
Lastly, we will impart the importance of legislation and how it comes to pass in the General Assembly. Then there's the importance of voting and crucial Governor's elections that shape criminal justice reform.
