The 40 Strong was founded in 2021 by Virginia prisoner Courtney " Free " Henson. Free had a vision of providing Virginia D.O.C. men and women with a monthly newsletter packed with valuable information. It was Free and co-founder Tyrah Kingcade (Nairobi X), that brought the vision to life. They reached out to 40 men and women and launched the beginning of 40 Strong. The first action by the 40 Strong was an information filled newsletter magazine that went to the original 40 members, and the rest is history. It was after rapid growth in membership that Free envisioned reaching the members by Jpay (digital email), to simplify connecting with them. This proved to be effective, and the members list continued to grow. Our newsletters have helped 1,000's of our members with second chance information, legislation updates, parenting, cognitive skills, and even College Guild courses. Our team has included great people like Ruth, Angela, Ninenette, Kirsten, Uhuru, Chris, and so many others. Our newsletter teams have been nothing short of amazing sacrificing their time to educate and inspire our members. We are thankful for the families who have showed up to our community events, and yearly General Assembly Days. we are now over 3,000+ members and continue to educate, motivate, and push our members to be great! We have countless members who have returned to society and are now community leaders with their own nonprofits. The 40 Strong is a testament of even a prisoner can find hope if we take the time to pour into them. We thank you for taking the time to visit our website and we will keep working. Our Best---
